SLES 11 reports an ACPI warning message on systems supporting ACPI 5.0

This document (7016776) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11

Situation

SLES 11 reports an ACPI warning message "ACPI Warning: FADT (revision 5) is longer than ACPI 2.0 version..." on ACPI 5.0 compatible system.

Resolution

This is the expected behavior with SLES 11 on systems supporting ACPI 5.0. The message can be safely ignored.

Cause

FADT (Fixed ACPI Description Table) introduces two new fields in ACPI 5.0 (comparing to ACPI 2.0). But, the SLES 11 kernel does not support the newly introduced features of ACPI 5.0. The warning message indicates that the ACPI FADT revision 5 is parsed as ACPI FADT revision 2.
