Printing fails for printers connected to a Windows print server

This document (7017957) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 Service Pack 1 (SLES 12 SP1)

Situation

When attempting to print to printers configured via "YaST > Hardware > Printers" that connect to a Windows print server this fails after entering credentials with the following logged in "/var/log/cups/error_log":

E [8/Jun/2016:10:10:14 +0100] [Job XX] Session setup failed: NT_STATUS_UNSUCCESSFUL
E [8/Jun/2016:10:10:14 +0100] [Job XX] Session setup failed: NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE
E [8/Jun/2016:10:10:14 +0100] [Job XX] Session setup failed: NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED

Resolution

In the "[libdefaults]" section of the "/etc/krdb5.conf" file the following entry needs to be added:

default_ccache_name = FILE:/tmp/krb5cc_%{uid}

Cause

The problem is caused due to non fitting KRB5CCNAME default locations of MIT Kerberos as offered by SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 (SLES12) which points to "/run/user/%{uid}/krb5cc" while expected from winbind is still the old location "FILE:/tmp/krb5cc_%{uid}".

Additional Information

Note: Printing is only an example. This configuration changed is needed whenever winbind is used!
The issue is caused by winbind and kerberos expecting different locations for the cache
