mount.cifs no longer works after updating Kernel to 2.6.16.54-0.2.5

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10

Situation

CIFS mounts stop working after updating the kernel to version 2.6.16.54-0.2.5.
Error: "mount error 112 = Host is down"

Resolution

For systems that can be updated to SUSE Linux Enterprise 10 Service Pack 2, this issue has been fixed
as of kernel version 2.6.16.60-0.21 (which is the version shipped in Service Pack 2).

For systems which cannot be updated to SUSE Linux Enterprise 10 Service Pack 2 (in particular, systems which have Open Enterprise Server 2 installed), this issue has been fixed as of kernel version 2.6.16.54-0.2.8 which is available as an online update.
