Resolution
To resolve this find the frequency ranges for the monitor attached to the server. This information can be found on the monitor itself or found on the vendor website. They will look something like: Fh: 24~82kHz, Fv: 50~85Hz (The numbers may vary for each model of monitor).
The preferred method of resolving this problem is to boot the server normally, use the ctrl+alt+F1 key sequence to switch to a console screen and log in as root. Enter init 3 to switch to runlevel 3. At the prompt, enter sax2 -l and choose "Change Configuration". Select the correct monitor from the list and verify the frequencies. If the monitor you are using is not in the list you can fill in the frequencies manually. You will then be able to test and fine tune the configuration.
The following method is possible but may not work in every circumstance:
Boot the server normally, use the ctrl+alt+F1 key sequence to switch to a console screen and log in as root. Enter init 3 to switch to runlevel 3. Enter vi /etc/X11/XF86Config and search the file for Section"Monitor". This section will contain the settings HorizSync and VertRefresh which should correspond to the monitor's frequency ranges. For example, using the frequency range above:
Fh: 24~82kHz = HorizSync 24-82
Fv: 50~85Hz = VertRefresh 50-85
Save the changes and close the vi editor. You may restart the server or enter init 5 to enter the GUI.
