packages dapl and compat-dapl conflict for dapltest and dtest

This document (7008024) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 Service Pack 1

Situation

Manual installation of dapl together with compat-dapl results in a dependency error:

rpm -ihv dapl-2.0.19-0.2.40.x86_64.rpm compat-dapl-1.2.14-0.2.40.x86_64.rpm

Error:
Transaction Check Error:
file /usr/bin/dapltest from install of dapl-2.0.19-0.2.40.x86_64 conflicts with filefrom package compat-dapl-1.2.14-0.2.40.x86_64
file /usr/bin/dtest from install of dapl-2.0.19-0.2.40.x86_64 conflicts with file from package compat-dapl-1.2.14-0.2.40.x86_64

YaST2 and zypper don't complain, only rpm does.

Resolution

Despite the errormessage, both packages can be installed together.

rpm -ihv --force dapl-2.0.19-0.2.40.x86_64.rpm compat-dapl-1.2.14-0.2.40.x86_64.rpm

Both dapltest and dtest binaries will be added to the rpm database as being part of dapl and compat-dapl.
Deleting one of the packages will leave both binaries on the system.

The errormessage can be safely ignored.
It is recommended to use YaST2 or zypper to install packages as these solve dependencies more flexible than rpm.

Additional Information

This issue is already fixed in OFED-1.5.2.
