Client can not register through SMT with new activation key

This document (7015088) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 Service Pack 3 (SLES 11 SP3)
Subscription Management Tool 11

Situation

SMT was registered with a key that expired, Clients can not register through the SMT and getting error message like:
ERROR: The subscription for SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 SP3 is expired.
But there is an active key under the company ID SMT is connected to.

Resolution

As of SLES 11 SP3 run "suse_register -E" on the SMT to remove the existing local registration information. If SMT is run on a previous service pack level, please follow this document:
https://www.suse.com/support/kb/doc.php?id=3303599

Re-register the SMT again with the new key using "yast2 inst_suse_register" or with:
suse_register -d 3 -a regcode-sles=YourActivationCode -a email=YourEmailAddress -a moniker=YourHostname -L /tmp/.suse_register.log
If the suse_register finished successfully the client will then be able to register with the SMT again.

Cause

SMT is still registered against the old key. NCC sometimes does not expire key correctly either, the "End Date" is in the past but it still shows up as "Registered" instead of "Expired".
