Environment


SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12

Situation

When SLES 12 is running on a PowerVM LPAR on an IBM Power server, the following kernel message (or similar) may occur:
"BUG: arch topology borken the CPU domain not a subset of the NUMA domain"
This is an indication of a potential performance issue.

Resolution

This issue can be resolved by rebooting the LPAR.

Cause

 This kernel message is from the PowerVM hypervisor. It indicates that the LPAR's CPUs have moved to new NUMA nodes.
