Bootstrap fails with ImportError: cannot import name idn_pune_to_unicode

SUSE Manager 2.1

Situation

Attempting to run a bootstrap script on a SUSE Manager client returns the following error:

Resolution

On the client exhibiting the issue follow the instructions in this TID:

On the SUSE Manager Server:

Ensure that the channels associated with the client are fully sync'd and the associated bootstrap repo is rebuilt. You can accomplish this by running the following commands as root on the SUSE Manager replacing the channels with those appropriate to the client experiencing the issue (Note: mgr-sync list channels can be used to get a listing of channels and running mgr-create-bootstrap-repo can be run without switches to list the available bootstrap-repos):

spacewalk-repo-sync -Y -c <updates channel for distribution>
spacewalk-repo-sync -Y -c <pool channel for distribution>
spacewalk-repo-sync -Y -c <suse manager tools channel for distribution>
mgr-create-bootstrap-repo -c <name of bootstrap repo channel>

For example if the client was SLES 11 SP4, the following commands run as root on the SUSE Manager server would ensure that the channels were completely sync'd and that the bootstrap repo contained the latest rpms:

spacewalk-repo-sync -Y -c sles11-sp4-updates-x86_64
spacewalk-repo-sync -Y -c sles11-sp4-pool-x86_64
spacewalk-repo-sync -Y -c sles11-sp4-suse-manager-tools-x86_64
mgr-create-bootstrap-repo -c SLE-11-SP4-x86_64

The final step is to run the bootstrap on the client again.

Cause

The issue is caused by a mismatch in the rhn and spacewalk stack on the client. By removing the existing stacks on the client and then ensuring the channels on the SUSE Manager server are fully up to date, including the bootstrap repo, the error should be resolved.
