SLES11 SP4 KVM guest with Kernel 3.0.101-108.18 is crashing with an invalid RIP

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 Service Pack 4 (SLES 11 SP4)

Situation

SLES11 SP4 KVM guests may crash. After a core dump has been saved, the 'dmesg' log will show entries like:

Resolution

The kernel update to kernel version 3.0.101-108.35.1 released February 2018 includes the patch to resolve this problem. Please install the recommended update.
