DHCP IP Address is not assigned during boot

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 Service Pack 2 (SLES 12 SP2)
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 Service Pack 3 (SLES 12 SP3)

Situation

During boot a server configured to use DHCP (Dynamic Host Configure Protocol) fails to obtain an IP address.

Resolution

Increase the network and DHCP client timeouts to at least the below values:

1. In "/etc/sysconfig/network/dhcp" set

DHCLIENT_WAIT_AT_BOOT="30"

2. In "/etc/sysconfig/network/config" set

WAIT_FOR_INTERFACES="60"

Cause

The network driver(s) may sometimes be slow to initialize the network interface(s).
