Offline upgrade from SLES12SP5 to SLES15SP2 failing on SSL error.

This document (000019756) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 SP2
Other SP combinations have not been tested but expect the same error.

Situation

Attempts to perform an offline upgrade from SLES12SP5 to SLES15SP2 using either the Full or Online media installers fails with the following error...

Resolution

If the upgrade fails on a SSL error, and the problem system was subscribed to an SMT server, boot the problem system normally, unsubscribe it from the SMT server using the steps documented here...

https://documentation.suse.com/sles/15-SP2/single-html/SLES-upgrade/#sec-update-preparation-rmt

... then retry the upgrade process and it will complete successfully.

Cause

The Installer detects SMT configured as an install source in /etc/SUSEConnect but cannot retrieve the SSL certificate, and so fails accordingly.
