How To Manually Reconfigure Kmail Host Settings

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10

Situation

Kmail hangs and pegs CPU utilization to 100% when contacting an e-mail server on which the user account does not exist. Manual reconfiguration of the e-mail settings is necessary.

Resolution

Some e-mail clients allow for offline startup for reconfiguration. Kmail, however, does not. Because of this limitation, manual reconfiguration is necessary. To modify the Kmail settings, open ~/.kde/share/config/kmailrc with your favorite text editor and change the [Account $number] section accordingly.
