Mouse not working when connected to keyboard / mouse switch

This document (3955433) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10
SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10

Situation

After installation and configuration of a SUSE Linux Enterprise based product the system is being attachted to a keyboard / mouse switch. When systems starts up and the login manager loads the mouse does not work anymore.

Resolution

Passing psmouse.proto=protocol_name as option to the kernel at boot time might help to solve the issue. This option supports the following protocols:
  • bare
  • imps
  • exps
  • lifebook
  • any
Please start by trying psmouse.proto=bare. If this does not help, try any other option from the list above.

Additional Information

Please check /usr/src/linux/Documentation/kernel-parameters.txt for updates or changes to the supported protocols. The file is part of the kernel-source.rpm.

To pass the options to the kernel each time the system start, changes to either /boot/grub/menu.lst or/etc/lilo.confare necessary. See  SDB: Inserting Boot Options Permanently for more information.
