HA node unable to join AD domain after applying HA SP3

This document (7014642) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise High Availability Extension

Situation

After upgrading a node in an HA SP2 cluster to HA SP3 the Windows Domain Membership plug-in in YaST fails to add the node to the AD domain.

An error written to the y2.log file during the attempt to join is:
2014-02-24 14:42:15 <2> Testsrv(23874) [Perl]
modules/SambaNetJoin.pm(SambaNetJoin::Test):257 'clustering' not defined in
smb.conf

Resolution

If you have an HA cluster with Samba installed but Samba is intensionally NOT clustered, you can uninstall ctdb.

After uninstalling ctdb the plug-in will be able to join that node to the domain.

Cause

The yast2-samba-client was modified in SP3 to support cluster-wide domain membership using CTDB.  In the scenario where there is a cluster but Samba is not clustered, the cluster-wide domain join fails.  If you removed ctdb then it falls back to the stand alone join code and is now able to join.
