The yast autoyast fails to apply kdump module to system

This document (7021044) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 Service Pack 2 (SLES 12 SP2)

Situation

Applying kdump settings in an AutoYaST control file after the server is installed results in the error:

"Internal error. Please report a bug report with logs.
Details: No mount point for / !!
Caller:  /usr/share/YaST2/modules/BootStorage.rb:202:in `detect_disks`"

The steps are:
Run yast autoyast.
Select File > Open > kdump.xml #where
Select Modules > Kernel Kdump

Setting in /etc/sysconfig/kdump are updated as expected, but the kdump service is not enabled and the crashkernel settings are not written to the grub configuration.

Resolution

Once you apply the kdump module, you must go into yast and enable kdump manually, then reboot the system.
