Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server SLES 15 SP2
​​​​​SUSE Linux Enterprise Server SLES 15 SP1
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server SLES 15
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server SLES 11 SP4

Situation

Wrong keyboard layout after upgrade from SLES 11 SP4 to SLES 15

Resolution

Use YaST in interactive mode, change to a different keyboard layout, save the changes and again use YaST to switch to the correct keyboard layout.

Cause

The systems keyboard configuration file /etc/vconsole.conf  is missing the KEYMAP option
