Product Description
The IBM System x3550 M2 offers robust, proven technology and a flexible, energy-smart design. Delivering multi-core computing on the Intel® Xeon® processor with QuickPath Interconnect technology, this server delivers significant performance improvement per watt compared to previous generation servers by integrating low-wattage components for an energy-smart thermal profile. This server offers feature-rich systems management capabilities from power management to proactive hardware monitoring. The Integrated Management Module (IMM) increases server availability by continuously monitoring your system and notifying you of potential system failures or changes. The Virtual Media key option provides remote presence capabilities without taking up a slot on the planar, while IBM Systems Director Active Energy Manager™ provides advanced power monitoring and notification.

Config Notes
- Install: System installed using PXE network install; the OS was installed using the UEFI boot loader and system configuration. Disk configuration: HDD single disk RAID 0 and M.2 boot device configured with two SSDs in RAID 1. The "Device model" selected for the SLES guest virtual network adapter during testing was e1000, instead of the default virtio.
- VM Driver Pack: All guests were tested with PV drivers installed. The SLES drivers are included with the OS. The Windows Server 2016 drivers are available from http://download.suse.com (VMDP-WIN-2.5.exe), the virtio network drivers were used during testing.
- SR-IOV: System was tested using SR-IOV where a virtual network adapter was given to the SLES 15 FV guest. One of the Intel Integrated Ethernet Connection X722 for 1GbE adapters was used in this testing.
- Kdump (SLE15): the crash kernel reserved memory parameters were increased from the default to crashkernel=236M,high crashkernel=132M,low using YaST.
