Today, SUSE Linux, the international technology leader and provider of Open Source solutions, announced the immediate availability of its highest enterprise-capable Linux distribution, SUSE Linux Enterprise Server version 7, based on the latest Linux kernel 2.4 and optimized for deployment in high-performance servers. Consistently expanding on its commitment to propel Linux into the enterprise, SUSEs announcement was strengthened by support from leading hardware and software vendors including Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE: CPQ), Oracle and SAP. SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 7, which was pre-announced last month, provides customers a Linux platform of software, services and industry standard hardware that is imperative to running a stable and secure Linux operating system across the enterprise. Furthermore, the Enterprise Server 7 enables the implementation of e-mail, Internet, and application services, as well as file and print services in heterogeneous networks (UNIX, Windows 9x/NT/2000, Novell Netware, MacOS).
"Running on industry standard Compaq ProLiantTM servers, SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 7 provides one of the most robust and scalable Linux platforms available for delivering applications to the enterprise," said Rick Becker, vice president, Business Development and Software Marketing, Compaq Industry Standard Server Group. "Together, SUSE and Compaq are enabling enterprise customers to deploy Linux in their heterogeneous operating system environments, while maintaining the same level of high-availability, reliability, storage capabilities and security they expect from enterprise computing environments."
Adding further strength to SUSE Enterprise Server 7 is its certification for Oracle 9i and SAP's E-Business solution mySAP.com.
