net-snmp: "undefined symbol: usmHMACSHA1AuthProtocol"

SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10

Situation

When issuing

perl -e "use SNMP;"

with perl-SNMP package you will receive the following message:
ERROR:
Can't load
'/usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.8/i586-linux-thread-multi/auto/SNMP/SNMP.so' for module SNMP:
/usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.8/i586-linux-thread-multi/auto/SNMP/SNMP.so: undefined symbol: usmHMACSHA1AuthProtocol
/usr/lib/perl5/5.8.8/i586-linux-thread-multi/DynaLoader.pm.

Resolution

Update the net-snmp, net-snmp-devel, and perl-SNMP packages.

This issue has been fixed as of net-snmp 5.3.0.1-25.5 , net-snmp-devel 5.3.0.1-25.5, perl-SNMP 5.3.0.1-25.5.

Additional Information

The perl modules for SNMP were not linked correctly againstlibsnmp, which causes unknown symbol errors when trying to useNet::SNMP.
