Log entries missing in /var/log/boot.msg after mounting the root device

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 11 Service Pack 2
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 Service Pack 2
 

Situation

While looking at /var/log/boot.msg it is noticed after mounting the root device no further messages are written to this log file.
The last messages are similar to:
 
[...]
Waiting for device /dev/sda2 to appear:  ok

fsck from util-linux 2.19.1
[/sbin/fsck.ext3 (1) -- /] fsck.ext3 -a -C0 /dev/sda2
/dev/sda2: clean, 195542/1240320 files, 1157027/4957696 blocks
fsck succeeded. Mounting root device read-write.
Mounting root /dev/sda2
mount -o rw,acl,user_xattr -t ext3 /dev/sda2 /root

 

Resolution

Update the package aaa_base to version 11-6.71.1 or later.
