Disabling SuSEfirewall2 daemon for reboot

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 Service Pack 4 (SLES 11 SP4)

Situation

The user wants to manually stop the firewall daemon (SuSEfirewall2) and have it stay down after a reboot.

Resolution

Use the following commands to stop the firewall daemon and have it stay down after a reboot:
rcSuSEfirewall2 stop
chkconfig SuSEfirewall2_init off
chkconfig SuSEfirewall2_setup off


Additional Information

Note that running without a firewall is a security risk and is not recommended.

Use the following steps to start the firewall daemon and so it will restart automatically after reboot:
rcSuSEfirewall2 start
chkconfig SuSEfirewall2_init on
chkconfig SuSEfirewall2_setup on
