yast2 failing via SSH X11 forwarding on openSUSE Leap 42.2 against SLES 12 SP2

This document (7018596) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 Service Pack 2 (SLES 12 SP2)

Situation

When accessing SLES 12 SP2 servers (physical or virtualized) as root via SSH with X11 forwarding, for example:

ssh -X -Y root@<server IP>

and then trying to start YaST e.g.:

/sbin/yast2

After executing the command nothing happens, nothing is logged, no errors are returned and YaST is not started.

Resolution

A current workaround to be able to start YaST is to execute the command in the following way:

LIBGL_DRI3_DISABLE=1 /sbin/yast2

Cause

The issue seems to be related to X11 forwarding over SSH or a problem with Qt.

Additional Information

An openSUSE BUG has been raised to fix this issue.
