Registration to SMT server fails with "login failed"

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 SP5

Situation

command 'zypper --non-interactive refs SMT-<url>' failed Error: zypper returned () with 'terminate called after throwing an instance of 'zypp::media::MediaUnauthorizedException' what(): Login failed.' SUSEConnect error: TypeError: no implicit conversion from nil to integer curl: (22) The requested URL returned error: 403

Resolution

Prior running registration check and remove custom ssl library from LD_LIBRARY_PATH.

If following command shows a result:
echo $LD_LIBRARY_PATH

Remove for running bash:
unset LD_LIBRARY_PATH

Cause

LD_LIBRARY_PATH contains reference to a custom ssl/curl library which causes zypper commands to fail, because those are not compatible.
