Version update of apache2 requires changes to site specific apparmor profiles

This document (000020546) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 SP3
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 SP2

Situation

After updating apache2 to version 2.4.51, access to HTTP resources fail when apparmor is used in enforcing mode.

Resolution

To restore access to the service, the apparmor profile (e.g. /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.httpd2) needs to be adjusted. Please change the entry

/run/httpd.pid rwl

to:

/run/httpd.pid* rwl

and restart the apparmor service by using

systemctl restart apparmor

Cause

apache2 2.4.51 handles PID files in a different way. Because the file path is exactly specified in the apparmor profile, apparmor does not recognize these files as valid files for the service execution and as a consequence, creating the files is denied.
