Checking Browser Health and Resource Consumption for Rancher

Environment

SUSE Rancher 2.9.x+


Situation

Should you need to check the browser health (performance) and resource consumption for Rancher, this article explains the steps to do so.

Resolution

Check the following aspects:

  • CPU
    • Go to ⋮ → More Tools  → Task Manager 
    • Monitor the CPU column. Is it constantly at 100?
  • Memory
    • Go to ⋮ → More Tools  → Task Manager 
      • Monitor the Memory footprint column. Is it constantly higher than 400 MB? What does it peak at? Does it drop down after a minute?
    • Go to ⋮ → More Tools  → Developer ToolsMemory Tab 
      • Monitor the Total JS heap size. Is it constantly higher than 100 MB?
  • Web Socket traffic
    • Go to ⋮ → More Tools  → Developer Tools  → Network Tab  → WS  → <check each entry> → Messages Tab 
    • Are there hundreds of messages per second?
  • Errors or spammed messages 
    • Go to More Tools  → Developer Tools  → Console Tab
    • Are there Error entries?
    • Are there lots and lots of messages?
