SLED 10 : KDE crashing for one user on a workstation

Environment


SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10

Situation

KDE crashes when starting up and will not stay running. This is for one specific user. Other users logging in to this workstation my not experience the issue.

Resolution

  1. Using a text console (obtainable by using the Control-F1 keys), login as the user experiencing the problem.
  2. In the home directory will be a hidden .kde directory (all directories or files with a leading dot are "hidden").
  3. Rename the .kde directory : "mv .kde .kdebackup"
  4. Return to the GUI login window (Control-F6)
  5. Login
  6. If successful, remove the .kdebackup directory.
