SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications 12 SP1
Release Notes #
SLES for SAP Applications combines SUSE Linux Enterprise Server and its High Availability Extension with additional software specifically meant to simplify running and managing SAP applications. This document provides an overview of high-level general features, capabilities, and limitations of SLES for SAP Applications 12 SP1 and important product updates.

. Any documentation (if installed) can be found in the
/usr/share/doc/ directory of the installed system.
1 SLES for SAP Applications #
1.1 What's New? #
1.1.1 Extended sapconf Architecture #
The architecture of sapconf has been adjusted to use
tuned. This allows much more flexibility (users can
now setup custom profiles) as well as providing several tuning profiles
for selection.
1.1.2 SLES for SAP Application Images in Kiwi #
The SUSE Kiwi tool now allows creating SLES for SAP Applications images. Such images can be used in private cloud deployments, for example.
1.1.3 Extensions to sapconf #
The sapconf package has been extended to support a
range of SAP products. Which products are currently supported is
documented in the respective man page.
1.1.4 Identity Cleanup #
SLES for SAP Applications 12 SP1 now ships with a script which removes all kind of identity information from the systems it is executed on. After the execution, such a system (for example, a VM) can be used as a Golden Image in virtualized environments. It is also possible to execute the script on bare metal installations, for example when those are shipped to other parties.
1.1.5 Support of NW-VSI 2.0 in ClamSAP #
The ClamSAP package now supports the NW-VSI 2.0 interface from SAP.
1.1.6 SAP Tuning Options #
Until the previous release of SLES for SAP Applications, the necessary SAP tuning options for operating system value were set through the SAP Installation Wizard. Without executing the Wizard, it was not possible to set these values.
With SLES for SAP Applications 12 SP1, these settings are now also
available through the sapconf package which can be
executed separately.
1.2 Support Statement for SLES for SAP Applications #
Support requires an appropriate subscription from SUSE; for more information, see: http://www.suse.com/products/server/.
General Support Statement
The following definitions apply:
L1: Installation and problem determination - technical support designed to provide compatibility information, installation and configuration assistance, usage support, on-going maintenance and basic troubleshooting. Level 1 Support is not intended to correct product defect errors.
L2: Reproduction of problem isolation - technical support designed to duplicate customer problems, isolate problem areas and potential issues, and provide resolution for problems not resolved by Level 1 Support.
L3: Code Debugging and problem resolution - technical support designed to resolve complex problems by engaging engineering in patch provision, resolution of product defects which have been identified by Level 2 Support.
SUSE will only support the usage of original (unchanged or not recompiled) packages.
1.2.1 SAPHanaSR Is Now L3-Supported #
The package SAPHanaSR which provides the SAP HANA
resource agents for SLE HA is now fully L3-supported.
1.2.2 SAP HANA Firewall Is Now L3-Supported #
The package HANA-Firewall which provides firewall
rules for SAP HANA is now fully L3-supported.
1.2.3 ClusterTools2 Is Now L3-Supported #
The package ClusterTools2, providing a suite of
tools to check the configuration sanity of a SLE HA cluster
configuration (among other things), is now fully L3-supported.
2 Features and Versions #
This section includes an overview of some of the major features provided by SLES for SAP Applications.
3 Installation and Upgrade #
3.1 Installation #
3.1.1 Third-Party Repositories Can Now Be Added from the SAP Installation Wizard #
The SAP Installation Wizard now includes a step that gives users an opportunity to add third-party repositories before proceeding with the SAP installation.
3.1.2 Tuning Settings in SAP Installation Wizard #
The SAP Installation Wizard now has an additional dialog for setting tuning profile (coming from sapconf). Based on the type of installation master the customer being installed, the dialog first makes a profile recommendation which is set as the default. You can then choose a different tuning profile. A description of the profile is displayed beside its name.
3.1.3 Installation on Systems with Multiple DVD Drives Is Now Possible #
It is now possible to install the product if more than one DVD drive is available (for example, in virtualized environments).
3.1.4 Installation Wizard now works on AWS #
The Installation Wizard is now fully functional when being used on the Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud.
3.1.5 Modified Boot Menu Options #
The installation options from the boot menu on the iso image have been moved to the YaST installation process. Within YaST, you can now select between:
"Standard SLES Installation"
"SLES for SAP Applications Installation"
"SLES for SAP Applications Installation + Execution of SAP Installation Wizard"
4 How to Obtain Source Code #
This SUSE product includes materials licensed to SUSE under the GNU General Public License (GPL). The GPL requires SUSE to provide the source code that corresponds to the GPL-licensed material. The source code is available for download at http://www.suse.com/download-linux/source-code.html. Also, for up to three years after distribution of the SUSE product, upon request, SUSE will mail a copy of the source code.
