Here When You Need Us

top doesn't show all memory on machines with more that a few terabytes of RAM

This document (7003259) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 Service Pack 2

Situation

On machines with more than 2TB of RAM top can't show all memory.
Instead the real number is truncated and only a fraction of the available memory is shown.
This bug only affects top, other tools like e.g. meminfo are not affected.

Resolution

A fix is available, but as this is only a minor issue a procps package will not be relased soon.
If you need a fixed package please contact SUSE Technical Services.
SLES10 Service Pack 3 and SLES 11 will be released with this fix included.
