This document (7006070) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 Service Pack 1
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 Service Pack 2
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 Service Pack 3

Situation

A Samba server based on SLES10, any Service Pack, has to join a Windows Server 2008R2 Domain

Older Samba versions can not join a 2008R2 domain.

Resolution

SLES 11 and above comes with Samba 3.2.X which is able to join.
For SLES10 this works only on Service Pack 3.
Make sure to install the latest updates.

Additional Information

There are UNSUPPORTED Samba packages which allow to join a 2008R2 Domain with SLES10 available in the OpenSUSE Buildservice:

Repository: network:samba:STABLE/SLE_10

Please note that these packages come without support!
