Database Errors with Kernel 3.0.101-108.57 and 3.0.101-108.60

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 Service Pack 4 (SLES 11 SP4)


Situation

After an Update to Kernel 3.0.101-108.57 an installed Oracle Database cores, crashes and generally floods log files with reports like

Jul  2 04:05:25 belphegore SAPSP1_22[10599]: LC2 Background Processing: Error 503 when executing external command on (xpgid=0,convid=.)
Jul  2 04:12:27 belphegore SAPSP1_22[10594]: AB0 Basis System: Runtime error "CALL_C_FUNCTION_NO_AUTHORITY" occurred.
Jul  2 06:12:54 belphegore SAPSP1_22[15077]: BB7 Database: Sort sequence error loading table ZSLDAP_ALL

Oracle log files report errors like

ORA-07445
ORA-00600

Resolution

To address this issue please upgrade to kernel version 3.0.101-108.63 or later.

Cause

This Kernel Update contains the fix for LazyFPU (CVE-2018-3665) which triggers this.

Additional Information

According to all available data and contrary to previous concerns SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 Service Pack 3 (SLES 12 SP3) is not affected by this issue.

If a kernel update is not possible, a temporary workaround would be to boot the system with the kernel option:

    eagerfpu=off
