LV is already locked with incompatible mode

This document (000019660) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15
SUSE Linux Enterprise High Availability Extension

Situation

When trying to modify Logical Volume or resizing it for example, the system print the following error:
LV is already locked with incompatible mode
The Volume Group is being managed by cluster software "pacemaker" and has the following resource definition:
primitive vg-data LVM-activate \
        params vgname=vg-data vg_access_mode=lvmlockd activation_mode=shared
And the Logical Volume have the following resource definition:
primitive lv01 Filesystem \
	params device="/dev/vg-data/lv01" directory="/my-data" fstype=ext4

Resolution

To fix the problem the right activation_mode should be used based on the LV's filesystem.
  • In case the FS is xfs or ext4 activation_mode should be exclusive
  • In case gfs2 and ocfs2 activation_mode should be shared
Note: default value is exclusive. For more information check: crm ra info LVM-activate

Cause

Wrong activateion_mode used in LVM-activate resource definition.
