Situation
Following error messages appear in
The output of
/var/log/messages :
Cron [45024]: PAM_SystemD (Crond: Session): Failed to Create Session: Maximum Number of Sessions (8192) Reached, Refusing Further Sessions. SSHD [50481]: PAM_SystemD (SSHD: Session): Failed to Create Session: Maximum Number of Sessions (8192) Reached, Refusing Further Sessions.
The output of
loginctl list-sessions lists 8192 sesions while there are much less processes currently running
ps aux|wc -l 583
Resolution
Update
systemd to at least version 234-24.102.1Cause
Session handling isn't detecting closed sessions correctly.
