Browser performance capture (trace)

This document (000021614) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

Rancher 2.9.x+

Situation

Rancher support might request a Browser performance capture to analyze possible issues.

Resolution

  • use Google Chrome Browser
  • log out from Rancher, if possible, and reload a blank page
  • open the Developer tools (F12 or ⋮ → More Tools → Developer Tools)
  • open the Performance tab
  • check the Screenshots and Memory checkboxes (on the right in the first row under the tabs)
  • navigate to the page where the problem manifests
    • in particular, if the slowness issue manifests when navigating to a page, then stop at the page immediately before that (the one that contains the link or button leading to the slow-loading page)
  • start recording (double circle icon on the left of checkboxes)
  • reload the page (e.g. CTRL+R)
  • click on the slow link/button or otherwise reproduce the issue
  • if any task needs to finish, wait an additional ~10 seconds after it is finished
  • stop recording
  • export the result by saving the trace with the downward pointing arrow button at the right of the record button
