netxen_nic ethx: transmit timeout, resetting

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 Service Pack 3
 

Situation

NetXen Incorporated NX3031, in certain configurations, when running on SLES 10 SP3 can become unresponsive and cause the kernel to print 'netxen_nic ethx: transmit timeout, resetting'.

Resolution

A)  Upgrade NetXen firmware to 4.0.550 and upgrade OS to SLES 10 SP4
or
B)  Upgrade NetXen firmware to 4.0.550 and upgrade SLES 10 SP3 netxen driver by installing appropriate qlgc-netxen_nic-kmp-<flavor>-4.0.74_2.6.16.60_0.54.5-1.<arch>.rpm package
