1Gb Port Issue with Integrated Ethernet Adapter for Selected IBM POWER7 Servers
This document (7013240) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.
Environment
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 Service Pack 2
Situation
Customers running SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 Service Pack 2 with the be2net 4.4.98.22 driver update available from SUSE will find that the second 1Gb port at slot C8-T4 on the "Dual 10Gb Copper + Dual 1Gb Ethernet" integrated ethernet adapter (FC 1768, FC 1769) does not operate correctly with the 4.0.326.3 firmware level installed on the adapter. An interface can be configured on the port but it will not receive traffic.
The following IBM servers with POWER7-based technology are affected:
8248-L4T
8408-E8D
9109-RMD
9117-MMD
9117-MMC
9179-MHC
9179-MHD
Resolution
An adapter firmware update is available on IBM Fix Central (http://www.ibm.com/support/fixcentral) which solves this problem. Please acquire the firmware update package and follow the instructions for installing the firmware update.
The other options for avoiding this issue are either not upgrading the be2net driver to version 4.4.98.22, or only using the first integrated ethernet adapter at slot C8-T3.
