SLES NFS client machine cannot obtain locks on NetApp Filer

Situation

A SLES machine acting as a NFS client to a NetApp Filer is running a database application and cannot obtain locks for files on the NetApp Filer. Even after rebooting the SLES machine, new locks are denied. . NetApp lists of files which are locked is not showing any culprits. However, packet captures of the nfs and lock manager activity confirm that the NetApp side is denying locks.

Resolution

The following commands were used at the NetApp device, after which NFS client locking was successful again. These commands have been provided by a 3rd party and have not been verify by SUSE in any way:

sm_mon -l

lock break -h <nfs-client-hostname>

lock break -p nlm

Where "<nfs-client-hostname>" is replaced with the name of the SLES host which is the NFS client in question.
