Pagecache bug can lead to hangs on SLES for SAP

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 for SAP Applications Service Pack 4

Situation

A bug has been identified in the pagecache mechanism which can cause servers to hang.
 
The symptom often presents it's self as very heavy I/O with blocked processes awaiting opportunity to make file updates.

Resolution

A patch for this issue was released in kernel 4.12.14-95.24.1  (2019-07-15).

Please update to this kernel or preferably the latest maintenance kernel.

Cause

Bug in pagecache mechanism.
 

Additional Information

This issue only existed in SLES for SAP 12 SP4
