SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 SP4 (LTSS)
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications 12 SP4
Situation
The server has one or more NFS shares and there are many writes.
In the NMI, the RIP often reports one of the following:
- nfs_commit_end
- __nfs_commit_inode
- nfs_scan_commit
- nfs_wb_page
Resolution
This is a known issue in the kernel and is solved with the following kernels:
- SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 Support Pack 1 --> 4.12.14-197.64 (Oct-20-2020)
- SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 Support Pack 5 --> 4.12.14-122.46 (Oct-21-2020)
- SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 Support Pack 4 --> 4.12.14-95.65 (Nov-26-2020) (LTSS)
The patch that provides the fix is (entry can be seen in the kernel package changelog):
* Mon Oct 12 2020 neilb@suse.de
- NFS: Revalidate the file mapping on all fatal writeback errors
(bsc#1177340).
- NFS: On fatal writeback errors, we need to call nfs_inode_remove_request() (bsc#1177340).
Cause
* Mon May 04 2020 neilb@suse.de
- NFS: Don't call generic_error_remove_page() while holding locks
(bsc#1170457).
Introduced in:
