Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications 12

Situation

Even though kernel.shmall, kernel.shmmax, kernel.sem parameters are chanaged in /etc/sysctl.conf, they revert to the value before the change after a server reboot.

Resolution

It is recommended to use sapconf to set recommended parameters for SAP application.
The values are changed in /etc/sysconfig/sapconf.

Note: the sapconf has been removed in SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications 15.

Cause

Make sure sapconf service is running. If sapconf service is running, it will give priority to the value in the sapconf configuration file over the value in the sysctl configuration file.
