Offline upgrading failed from SLES12 SP5 to SLES15 SP5 with showing Error “Previous snapshot was not found”

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 SP6
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 SP5
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications 15 SP6
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications 15 SP5
 


Situation

When upgrading from SLES12 SP5 to SLES15 SP5 using the offline method, the upgrade fails with the following error :

Previous snapshot was not found

Resolution

Use the following parameter in the Boot Options field of the Installer to disable snapshots when using the offline upgrade method:

disable_snapshots=all

Cause

Systems using Btrfs file systems for the root partition with snapshot management enabled cannot find any valid snapshots for system restores.
