The installer self-update failed due to unexpected package versions in the self-update repository
This document (000021652) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.
Environment
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 SP6
Situation
During an attempted upgrade or installation of SLES 15 SP6, an error occurred due to unexpected package versions found within the self-update repository:
Error
The installer found unexpected package versions in the installer
self update repository. Make sure that the self update
URL points to a correct repository.
Configured update repositories:
<URL>
Installation system: SUSE Linux Enterprise 15 SP6
The installer self update will be skipped.
OK
Resolution
The installer self-update should only be used with GA ISO, such as SLE-15-SP6-Full-x86_64-GM-Media1.iso
or a tftpboot installation package from GA repository.
When using a Quarterly Update Image (e.g., SLE-15-SP6-Full-x86_64-QU2-Media1.iso
) or a tftpboot installation package that is newer than the GA package (e.g., tftpboot-installation-SLE-15-SP6-x86_64-16.59.16-150600.3.7.2.noarch.rpm
), the self-update should be skipped.
The kernel's command line option self-update=0
can be used to bypass the Installer self-update.
Cause
The installer's self-update functionality in SLE15 SP2 and later versions includes a safety check to prevent crashes and unexpected behavior. This check compares the versions of specific packages in both the self-update repository and the inst-sys. If a mismatch is detected, the self-update process is aborted and an error message is displayed, indicating the use of an incompatible self-update repository.
