SUSE Linux today announced two new customers as the wave of major corporations relying on Linux continues to grow. McDonald's Germany, the nation's leading quick-service restaurant organization, and Apollo-Optik, Germany's leading optical retail chain, have both made commitments to SUSE Linux yielding substantial benefits for their information technology architectures.
McDonald's Germany is deploying SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for DNS, FTP and proxy services on the Internet in support of its 1,200 restaurants throughout the country.
"All in all, an enormous stability and availability is clearly evident" said Thomas Trepl, project manager for new technologies for McDonald's Germany. "The implementation of SUSE Linux Enterprise Server has resulted in uptimes of more than 400 days -- interrupted only due to extensions on the hardware side. The superior scripting capability enables maximum flexibility for reacting to new challenges, enabling shorter implementation times."
Apollo-Optik expects to cut server costs in half over the course of its migration of 600 servers to SUSE Linux Standard Server by 2006.
"Together with the new Fujitsu-Siemens hardware, we reduce the needed investments per store by fifty percent. This alone is stunning. Additionally, we save a substantial amount of support costs due to the stability and error-free operation of our solution," according to a statement by Apollo-Optik.
