Multipath fails after upgrade from SLES10sp1 to SLES10sp2

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 Service Pack 2
NetApp SAN Storage

Situation

After upgrade to Sles10sp2, all lun/drives were mounted, but multipath was no longer functioning. The following errors were observed in boot log:

Creating multipath targetserror calling out prio
error calling out prio

Resolution

We removed /etc/multipath.conf from problem servers then rebooted. Multipath now working normally.

The /etc/multipath.conf was not needed due to the fact that the hardware was detected and supported by SLES. In general most storage systems will be detected and work automatically. Others may require an entry in the /etc/multipath.conf under the device section.
