pci=pcie_bus_perf boot parameters results in kernel crash

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 SP3

Situation

kernel version 3.0.101-0.35.1 or older

Certain system configurations may cause an OS crash during bootup if booted in UEFI and using the pci=pcie_bus_perf kernel parameter.

Resolution

The kernel update -3.0.101-0.40.1 released October 2014 includes the fix.
