SLES11 SP4 only has one available video resolution on the Intel Greenlow Platform (Skylake GPU)

This document (7016664) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 Service Pack 4 (SLES 11 SP4)

Situation

SLES11 SP4 only has one available video resolution on the Intel Greenlow Platform (Skylake GPU).

Resolution

This is the expected video behavior for SLES11 SP4 with the Skylake GPU on the Intel Greenlow platform.

Cause

SLES11 SP4 does not support the Skylake GPU for Intel Greenlow platform. Instead, the kernel framebuffer drivers (efifb.ko for UEFI-based OS and vesafb.ko for legacy-based OS) are used to interact with xorg driver. Those kernel drivers only support one resolution, and the monitor information shows "Unknown" in "Display Preference" window.
