Name resolution through WINS changes locale to 'C'

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10
SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10


 

Situation

  • Processes switch to the C locale
  • Processes do not recognise non-ASCII characters like à, á, â,ä, æ, ß as printable characters.
  • Files whose names contain non-ASCII characters cannot be accessed, processed or backed up.

Resolution

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10
SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10

Update to samba-winbind version 3.0.24-2.23 or newer. A fixed version is included in Service Pack 1.
