Adding Additional True Type Fonts

This document (3866648) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10

Situation

Additional TrueType fonts need to be added to the system for use with applications or graphic desktop.

Resolution

  1. Login as the root user.  In the GNOME "Computer" menu open the Control Center.  For KDE open the Main menu and look for Tools-->Desktop-->Control Center.
  2. Click on "Look and Feel".
  3. Click on "Fonts".
  4. In the "Font Preferences" screen, click on "Details".
  5. Click on "Go to Fonts Folder". This will open a folder showing all of the installed fonts on the system.
  6. Drag your own .TTF font file into the folder.
As an alternative you can manually copy the .TTF font files to the following directory as a root user:

/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/truetype

Then to have the new fonts recognized by the system run the following command as the root user:

SuSEconfig –module fonts
