No graphical login manager displayed via vnc

This document (7002819) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11
    Remote Administration via VNC enabled
XDM or KDM is used as login manager (GDM does not have this issue)
        IPV6 is active

          Situation

You're using XDM or KDM as login manager and have enabled remote administration, but when you start a vnc session you only get an empty window. No login manager is displayed.

          Resolution

If you do not need the Name Service Caching Daemon (nscd) we would recommend to disable the service completely:
          rcnscd stop
          insserv -r nscd
If you're in need of nscd edit the file /etc/xinetd.d/vnc and replace each line that contain
server_args = -noreset -inetd -once -from localhost -query localhost -geometry 1024x768 -depth 16
          with
server_args = -noreset -inetd -once -query localhost -geometry 1024x768 -depth 16
After the change make sure to reload the xinetd service:
          rcxinetd reload

          Additional Information

The issue is currently investigated by engineering, the above instructions are only a workaround until a bug-fix can be released.
