Kernel panics during backup

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 Service Pack 1
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 Service Pack 2

Situation

Server panics during backups.  Depending on the backup configuration the panic can occur every day.

Resolution

Exclude /var/lib/ntp/proc from being backed up.

Cause

/var/lib/ntp/proc references the /proc file system.  Backing up /proc is known to cause kernel panics during backup.
