Xming X server connection to SLED 11 SP1 fails after login.

This document (7007078) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 11 SP1  (SLED11 SP1)
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 SP1  (SLES11 SP1)
Xming Windows X server version 7.5.0.25 or earlier.

Situation

SLED (or SLES) 11 SP1 is using GDM/GNOME as the displaymanager/desktop and is configured to allow a direct X server XDMCP connection through port 6000.

Xming version 7.5.0.25 or earlier is installed on a Windows system and is configured to establish a XDMCP session to the SLED11 SP1 system.

When the connection is established the GDM login screen is displayed and the credentials are entered correctly.  Just after clicking the "Log In" button (or pressing Enter) the display seems to hang and no further progress is made.  The graphic desktop is never dispayed.

Resolution

Upgrade Xming to a version greater than 7.5.0.25.

Additional Information

A fix was made in Xming to handle void requests differently, as explained in this bug report on freedesktop.org:
